MIDNIGHT RUN
Midnight Run: Compassion in Action for Over 35 Years
For more than 35 years, Midnight Run has brought people together — bridging the gap between the housed and the homeless of New York City through simple acts of kindness, conversation, and care.
At Hitchcock Church, under the dedicated leadership of Rudy Whyte, volunteers come together on the last Saturday of each month to prepare for our evening Run. From 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, we gather to make sandwiches, pack food, and sort clothing. Later, we regroup from 6:00 to 6:30 PM before heading out at 8:00 PM to deliver food, clothing, blankets, and friendship to our neighbors living on the streets of Manhattan.
Breakfast Runs: Serving Hope and a Hearty Meal
In July, October, and November, we host Sunday morning Breakfast Runs — a joyful time of service filled with good food and even better company! Volunteers meet in the Lower Children’s House on Saturday morning to prepare a delicious full buffet breakfast — complete with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, muffins, oatmeal, and plenty of coffee and refreshments.
We meet again at 6:00 AM on Sunday to load the vans and head into Manhattan’s lower west side, returning around 11:00 AM. Together, we serve meals, hand out clothing and personal care items, and most importantly, share smiles, stories, and friendship with those we meet.
A Season of Giving: The Christmas Run
Each December, we celebrate the season with our annual Christmas buffet, serving a warm holiday meal and gifting new coats to everyone who comes. It’s one of the most joyful and meaningful events of the year — a true celebration of community and generosity.
Partnership and Purpose
We are grateful to partner with the Pleasantville F.A.S.T. Special Education Department, whose dedicated teenage and adult interns — along with their teachers — lend their time and talents each week. They sort, count, and label clothing, assemble toiletry bags, and even help prepare our famous Midnight Run Soup!
Please Join Us!
Whether you volunteer once or become a regular part of the Run, everyone is welcome. Your time, your hands, and your heart make all the difference!
We’re deeply thankful to Hitchcock Church and our generous community for their ongoing support and donations — together, we make the Midnight Run possible.
