Vision 2020: The Case for Support
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Hitchcock Presbyterian Church finds itself in an enviable position as we begin 2019: we are a congregation that is growing, with new families walking in the doors every week. This past Advent season (2018), for example, saw attendance over the four Sundays average 216 people, and two Christmas Eve services full to bursting. By comparison, the average attendance for the four Sundays of Advent from 2015-2017 was 161 people per service. That’s a 34% increase in average attendance! Easter is a similar story, causing us to add a service in 2018. Similarly, Rally Day in September and our Stewardship Breakfast Service in November were so well attended we had difficulty seating everyone.
At a time when many churches are struggling to attract members and stewardship support, Hitchcock is overflowing with good things: we have a surge in participation, especially from young families but from long-term members as well, and healthy annual Stewardship results, with budget goals met. The potential for growth is incredible!
But as a result of this growth, our ministry team is stretched to the limits. We need to meet and connect with all who come to us and be sure everyone feels welcome. We need to capture this surge in attendance and turn visitors into active members. With the right staff in place, the next five years could be a time of exceptional growth and increased mission into the world.
As much mission work as our congregation does, there is opportunity for much more. Hitchcock’s tradition and reputation for mission and outreach work is an important draw for new members and goes straight to our identity as a congregation. Our mission statement is testimony to the centrality of mission and community outreach for our membership:
“We come to be in the presence of God,
so we can be the presence of God in the world around us”
The Vision 2020 Campaign represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to contribute to the long-term growth of Hitchcock’s congregation.
The Purpose for Vision 2020:
