Lenten Choral Service
During worship on Sunday, March 18th, the Chancel Choir will present John Stainer’s most famous oratorio, The Crucifixion, written in 1887. It contains one of his most famous pieces—”God So Loved the World”. Stainer (1840-1901) was organist and director of choirs at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London and considered one of the most distinguished musicians of his generation. This work is for bass and tenor soloists, choir and organ. The text is based on the Passion of Christ. Join us on the 5th Sunday of Lent as the choir proclaims the passion story through music.
It is a most fitting piece for our Lenten theme—
Here We Stand...in the Shadow of the Cross!
2018 is a Cantata year! The children’s choirs present a musical every other year in May. This year they are presenting a delightful one—Table for Five...Thousand! The Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. The account of Jesus feeding the five thousand is presented in appealing music and narrative as it appears in the Gos-pel of John—where one young boy with five loaves and two fish is the catalyst for everything that follows. This 30 minute musical will appeal to all ages. Please join us in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, May 23rd at 7 PM and bring everyone you know; it is always a fun night!
Come out and support the children of the church, who are sure to entertain.
8:30 PM - Choral Prelude
The Chancel Choir, soloists and chamber orchestra will begin the Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols.
9:00 PM - Traditional Service of Lessons and Carols
Music by the Chancel Choir and orchestra with congregational singing of traditional carols.
Please join us for the 11th Annual Community Carol Sing event. Come and enjoy singing some of your favorite, well-known carols and some that are not so well-known, all accompanied by the mighty Walker organ and instruments in the comfort of the church sanctuary. Donna Elaine's Flute Choir and Handbell Choir will join us. This fun, family event will be followed by the lighting of the outdoor tree and a wonderful time of fellowship in the Lower Children's House with holiday food and drink provided by the Deacons and Hospitality Committee. There may even be a surprise guest in RED. This family event is free and all are welcome. Bring your friends and neighbors.
