What does “More Light” Mean?

Hitchcock prides itself on being a diverse congregation where anyone who walks through our doors will know that they are welcome and loved! The Session of Hitchcock, upon recommendation of its mission elders, is exploring the step of making that official as it relates to our LGBTQ brothers and sisters in faith. In the Presbyterian Church (USA), the most visible way to do that is to officially become a “More Light” Presbyterian Church. More Light is a group of member churches, all within the Presbyterian Church (USA), that intentionally seeks such inclusion and diversity.
Their mission statement is as follows:

“Following the risen Christ, and seeking to make the Church a true community of hospitality, the mission of More Light Presbyterians is to work for the full participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer    (LGBTQ) people in the life, ministry and witness of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and in society.”

All members and friends of Hitchcock are invited to attend an educational event on Wednesday evening, October 4th, from 6:00-7:30pm. We will begin with dinner and fellowship at 6:00, followed by a program and Q&A time. Come and learn more about this exciting opportunity as, in honor of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, we say together: “Here We Stand!”
